February has been a busy month for School athletics. Sportshall  Championships for under 15 pupils and the 59th Welsh Schools Cross Country Championships at Brecon. Sportshall saw 56 pupils taking parting the boys event and 56 girls in the girls event. There were 89 pupils taking part in the cross country from Cardiff and Vales schools.
Welsh Schools Cross Country is an important Championships. Many running for the opportunity to compete in SIAB  and to gain Welsh schools athletics vest. 
The first race saw an excellent ran by Millie Gold ( St Illtyds) who finished 2nd . The Cardiff And Vale team finished 2nd.
The Junior Boys’ race so 3 of the top 4 being Cardiff athletes
Josh Sanders (Whitchurch) won the race with Harry Turner (Corpus Christi) third and team captain Kerby Beltran (Corpus) fourth.  Team winning the age group.
Moli Lyons (YG Bro Morgannwg) became second individual winner by Cardiff Athlete.
 
In the year 7 girls’  races, Bryony Boyce (Cathedral) was the winner. As was this  year 7 team.  Isobel Davies came 4th representing Glamorgan Valleys
 
 The numbers taking part in the senior boys’ race was low – only 28 starters, of which Cardiff and Vale had ten.  Rhys Hardman (Cowbridge, SB) won a well-contested race, with Jacob Reynolds (Cardiff & Vale College)  Cardiff athlete in fourth.  Cardiff and Vale finished the winning senior boy team.
 
Middle boys race saw year 10, Kobe Beltran (Corpus Christi) finished 7th
Cardiff and Vale finished first overall.
Well done to all Cardiff athletes who were part of the Cardiff and Vale athletes who took part in these  Championships . And to all Cardiff athletes who took part that are in school in other areas.
An outstanding performance in sportshall was Salem Kiambi in the standings shot with a throw of 13.70m.
