Cardiff Amateur Athletic Club is the only sports club in Cardiff that caters for the full range of athletics and is one of the leading athletic clubs in Britain. The club’s activities cover track & field, cross country and road running and it has members that participate in fell running and disabled athletics.
We are affiliated to the governing bodies of athletics in Britain and in Wales which are UK Athletics and Welsh Athletics respectively and the club is a voluntary organisation with officials, coaches, team managers and others providing countless numbers of hours without payment of any kind.

Marie Sparkes is the Head Coach at Cardiff Athletics Academy; part of her role is to coordinate the delivery of coaching sessions and the CPD of all Academy Coaches and Volunteers.
Marie started volunteering in the Academy as a Coach in 2016 developing athletes’ skills and formulating positive relationships which led her to being appointed Head Coach within the Academy allow the Academy to grow and modernise.
Prior to joining the Academy Marie spent 9 years working in primary schools leading a variety of successful roles from Maths Coordinating, supporting and developing SEN children and PE teaching. After achieving a HONS Degree, Marie started teaching PE in secondary schools. Marie’s teaching highlight was helping guide the children to achieve their life goals.
Marie’s main aim is to continue improving the development of the Academy and athletes.

Qualifications: Athletics Coach
Rory’s main role on the management Committee is to recruit and support new volunteer Track officials and coordinate home club fixtures.
Rory joined the Club just after the Olympics 2012 along with his son, and soon started volunteering for the club at Track and Field event. Rory had a thirst for officiating and completed the level 1 track judge course, level 2 race walk Judge and has propelled himself through officiating pathway and is now a level 4 Track Judge.
Rory also became an assistant coach and started coaching in the track rats. Rory continued the coaching pathway and completed the athletics coach course. Rory continues to coach in the clubs Academy.

Bethany was one of the founding members of the Club Young Leaders programme and been with the Academy for 2 years. During this time Bethany has completed the Sports Leader level 2, Sports First Aid, Safeguarding and the Assistant coach Course.
Bethany really enjoys coaching supporting the little dragons in the Academy and is studying Sport Development and Coaching in college.
Bethany is also an active athlete for the club and enjoys Steeplechase, Road Running and Cross Country.
