Rhys Williams (President)

Hi All,

It is with the utmost pleasure that I write this message as President of Cardiff Athletics. Some will know me already, but for those of you that I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting, I look forward to helping you in any way I can and please seek me out during club nights to say ‘hello’.

A little bit about me. Starting at the club aged 17, I competed for the club until the age of 32. During this time I made many lifelong friends, as well as meeting my wife Leila, who also ran for the club. As an athlete at the club, I went on to achieve Welsh, British and European titles in the 400m Hurdles. Winning the European Championships and competing at the Olympic Games have been career highlights.

The club and all its members have had to navigate the challenges of Covid in the last 12 months, which has made us all adapt, in our sport of athletics and also our lives. I would like to say a big thank you to those members for their continued hard work during the many ups and downs of the last 12 months.

Many of us have been thankful to have our sport as an outlet, to help us connect, debrief and recharge ourselves during this past year. Our Club’s place in the community is as important as ever and I hope all its members have a long and enjoyable experience, where we can continue to make the club a fun, safe and happy environment for all. Thank you and good luck for 2022.

Yours in Sport,

Rhys
