Cardiff senior ladies team in Match 1 of the 2019 season, was held in Leigh, Manchester, yesterday. On the team's debut in the Premier League for the first time, finished in a creditable 4th place of the 8 competing teams. A new club record 3.40.94 was set by the 4x400m relay team (2nd) taking nearly 5secs off the old record set in 2013. Team manager Sharon Thor Heveran was full of praise for the teams performance in Manchester. Rhiannon Linnington-Payne after missing the whole of last summer with injury, in the 400m (2nd) achieved 54.53 pb. Sara Omoregie 2nd in SP with 14.81 that gave her 4th place in match top 10 best  performances. 

There were good team points scored in middle distance races, with A & B wins in 800m by Lizzy Harris, and Naormi Reid, who doubled up with 3rd in A 1500m, and Rebecca Evans 3rd in B race. Clara Evans was 3rd in A 3km and Rebecca Evans doubled up finished 4th. 

In field events Rebecca Chapman A  Long Jump  was 2nd, with Sara Geary also 2nd in B Long Jump. In hammer Ffion Palmer was 6th in A Hammer event, with Catlin Chapman 6th in B Hammer. In Javerlin Bethany Y Moule A was 2nd with Rebecca Chapman 4th in B Javelin.

The team was a mix of experience senior athletes and young athletes. Many athletes where possible doubled up to achieve more team points, helping to reduce damage from 2 events with no club competitors.

The BAL mem's teams, and the UKWAL women's teams, are the flag ships teams of our club, within UK Athletics. Both teams need to recruit good athletes, to support our existing seniors, and young athletes coming through the club younger age groups league teams, and coaching groups. To compete in men's and women's Premier Leagues, All clubs competing at Premier League level compete to recruit athletes, no club can produce top athletes in all T & F events.
