Clive Williams, the club's first captain in 1968 and a member of the team almost half a century ago when they were British Athletics League champions for three successive years, has put pen to paper to record those achievements in a 100 page booklet called “The Glory Years of Cardiff AAC.”

1964 Olympic long jump champion Lynn Davies was a key member of the team and has written a welcome message, in which he says that he was amazed at the attention to detail contained in the booklet. Club stalwart John Lister has written the Foreword.

The club was formed out of the merger of the two Cardiff clubs, Roath and Birchgrove Harriers in 1968, and within 3 years they had effectively become  Britain's top club. The story of the merger is covered in the booklet.

Clive has been writing on Welsh athletics for almost 60 years, and his first report appeared in the South Wales Echo when he was just 18.

He is a former British team selector and author of many articles and booklets on the sport. He was co-author and editor of “The History of Welsh Athletics” a 640 page, 2 volume book published in 2002. He is also a former Welsh correspondent for Athletics Weekly and one of only 10 life members of Welsh Athletics – the governing body of the sport in Wales.

This is a great read about the history behind the club we all love and would make a lovely Christmas gift. On sale at Cardiff Athletics Club room, which is now open, for £10 and also available to order from Clive Williams for £13 including postage. All profits will go to the club.
