Welsh Cross Country Championships
Welsh Cross Country Championships took place on a beautiful day in Pembrey. There were a number of great races which saw Cardiff athletes battling in individual and team events in all age groups. Well done to all who took part.
Senior Men’s team came first with James Hunt coming first in the individual event with Dan Nash taking second place. Mattie Edwards(5th) Mike Kallenberg (6th) Alex Jackson (7th) and Larry Ryan (8th) were the other Cardiff athletes finishing in the top 10.
Senior Women’s team saw Helen Sharpe finish 8th, Julie Chamberlain 28th and Emma Palfrey 31st.
Men’s U20 Team finished 1st in the Championships. Ben Miles (2nd) Lloyd Shepard -Brown (3rd) Oliver Price (8th).
Men’s U17 Team came 2nd in the Championship. Ben Hughes (8th) Ben Farrell (13th) Rhys McNabb (20th).
Womens U17/20 event saw Moli Lyons finish 2nd in the U20 race . Lara Nicholas finished 12th and Gwenno Goode was just behind in 14th position in the U17 race.
U15 Girls Team came in 1st . Great racing by the U 15 team saw Millie Gold finish 2nd , Mabli Phillips 7th and Nave Jones 9th.
U15 Boys team finished 2nd. Kobe Beltran finished 6th, Kerby Beltran 9th and Iwan Froley 10th.
U13 Girls Team came 1st . Bryony Boyce 2nd Rebeca Harries 10th Elffin Bryant 12th
Girls 5/6 Team came 1st. Elinor Roberts finished 2nd , Lily Parsons 4th and Eva Martin 11th
U 13 boys saw George Cook 27th.
Boys 5/6 team finished 1st. Osian Phillips finished 2nd, Jack Harris 8th and Charlie lee 12th.
Cardiff had 5 teams that took the title of Welsh Champions
Winter long throws
This competition took place at Loughborough, it saw Aled Davies F42 make a great start to his season with a throw of 52.54 m to win his event. Jac Palmer started his season with a throw of 66.20m to finish 4th.
British indoor championships
There was some great performances at the British Indoor Championships which could be viewed on BBC iPlayer this week. Places in the British Team for World Indoor Championships at stake. Cardiff athletes once again showing they are able to mix it with the best in the country.
Bethan Davies gave a fantastic performance in winning the 3000m walk to claim the title. This was a great warm up for the World Race Walking Team Championships in Muscat this week. Walking is a hard event to master and to walk indoor with the sloping bends. Bethan showed that she is a great walker. Good luck to Bethan in the World Championships.
Jeremiah Azu again showed he is in great form. He ran another PB in the semi final 6.56s which was hard fought race to the line. The final followed quickly after this battle. He continued his fantastic form running 6.65s to make the podium in 3rd place, with Sam Gordon finishing just behind Jeremiah in 4th. Sam ran a PB of 6.65s.
Lauren Evans who has been showing great form over the winter came 3rd in the Women’s Pentathlon with a fantastic performances with a points score of 4020. Lauren had a number of personal bests performances the highlight must be her 800m.
Rebecca Chapman once again showing her consistency with a long jump of 6.30 a seasons best.
3000m saw Cari Hughes and Kate Seary taking part in a competitive race. Cari ran a personal best of 9.18.93 in 5th and Kate finishing 8th.
David Locke has a seasons best in the heats of the 800m
Owen Smith also had a seasons best in the semi final of the 400 m.
James Heneghan had a 5th place in a competitive 1500m final.
