Although Jeremiah Azu failed to retain his British 100m title, he stormed to a new Welsh and club record in the heats of the British Championships in Manchester over the weekend.

He erased the 10.11 record of Cardiff club mate Christian Malcolm from the books with 10.08 in the heats. He went on to finish 4th in yesterday’s final run in a thunderstorm, which was won by new British record holder Zharnel Hughes.

Former world junior 100 and 200 champion Christian, one of the all-time greats of Welsh athletics, set his record at the 2001 World championships.

Jeremiah will now wait with bated breath for the team announcement for confirmation that he has made the British team, at the very least in the sprint relay, for next months world championships in Budapest.
