JAKE HEYWARD BREAKS HIS OWN CLUB RECORD
15 th May, Irvine, CA, USA.
Jake in first race since August 2020, finished 2 nd 1500m 3.36.24 after leading race over the
last two laps.
Jake reported that he had injections into tendon, and spent most of winter with his foot in a
boot. Once back training his coach Mark Rowlands, worked on his mechanics, and built the
training programme to get Jake fit, and able to race again.
There was a partial video of race in AW that only briefly showed start, middle of race, and
finish.
Matt Centrowittz (Rio Olympic 1500m Gold Medalist 2016) won in 3.35.26 finishing very fast
on home straight. Mark last lap in Olympics 1500m was 50secs in a very slow race.
The field also included a number of British runners, including Marc Scott 3 rd 3.36.28, Will
Paulson 8 th 3.37.57, and George Mills 9 th 3.40.11.
Jake’s first season target. is the British Olympic 1500m standard of 3.35. With more races he
can only improve, as season goes on.
Last July he did 1000m race in 2.18.55, that’s 3.30 1500m pace.
