Cross Country Round Up 2

Stirling International and XChallenge races were held on Saturday 11th January in Sturing Scotland. Like most of UK Stirling course was affected by heavy rainfall over last month. Course was very muddy. The event hosted the Celtic International races with Wales teams competing from senior to U17 age groups. A number of Cardiff male and female runners were selected across age groups. James Hunt SM 26.10  was an excellent 5th, and Matthew Edwards 29th 27.33. With 3 runners in senior races, Kristian Jones 1st 25.33 led Welsh team home. The Wale's senior women's team were one short. Cardiff's Laura Wright had entered the XChallenge U20W race. Laura was drafted into Wales team finishing 42nd 32.45 a creditable race result, U20 race is shorter distance to senior race. Hence photo of Laura, who has made a breakthrough in U20W cross country racing in 2019/20 season.

U20M (All Wales Teams in lower age groups had 4 runners, plus Dev Wales runners).

Lloyd Sheppard 14th 24.43 led home Welsh team. Lloyd, another young Cardiif runner, has produced good XC race results. Morgan James 22nd 25.14 is another young runner making good progress. Ben Reynolds 34th 26.06 had a tough time in the mud. Ben was in Dev Wales representative.

U20W Nia Clatworthy 18th 29.28 was a good result. Mia Goddard 25th 30.31 had a solid race. 

U17M  Jacob Reynolds 33rd 21.42 had a solid race.

U17W Gwenno Goode 11th 24.03 was 6th, fell over on a tight turn cutting her leg on race stake, cost her a top 10 finish.           Moli Lyons 13th 24.09 was also good race result.

Competition at this level is pathway to higher levels of competive racing.

VALENCIA 10K 12th January 2020

In the Women's race. Cardiff's Jenny Nesbitt was first British runner to finish in 9th 32.42 taking 10secs off her pb. Her Cardiff Parkrun 5k 4th January result 2nd 15.54. Was 2nd female fastest time, must has boosted her confidence (coach Chris Jones) going into Valencia 10k race.
