 The following Athletes were nominated by Club Coaches and Team Managers they were then selected by an inpartial committee based on performance through out the year for there Club and Vest.

Harvey Howard

A keen junior sprinter - Harvey loves to run fast and can. Harvey is always at training and has attended all leagues in 2024. Harvey is super excited for U13s with more opportunities to showcase his talent.

Ayla Rogers

A determined and committed athlete, Ayla is an absolute super star. Always at training and eager to compete, despite battling her nerves. Ayla is fiercely competitive and one to watch for the future!

Kenzie Clarke

Kenzie is exactly what sport is about.

Always with a smile on his face!

At every competition, Kenzie was there, offering to fill any gap available. The pure definition of a ‘have-go hero’. A joy to have in the team.

U13G

Abbie Williams

Abbie is an extremely competitive age group but Abbie was probably our most versatile athlete at the leagues this season. On more than one occasion, Abbie willingly changed events on the day, to fill last minute gaps. A talented and committed athlete across multiple events!

U15B

Sam Riddle

Sam  transferred to us from a “local rival”!!, Sam made an incredible debut in the YDL.

By the time I asked him to fill in for the 100m, he’d already offered to fill every gap possible. At times he was more like an assistant team manager rather than an athlete!

A great addition to the club!

U15G

Ffion Mitton

Ffion is a talented and commited sprinter. The U15 girls was one the strongest we’ve had in years. Ffion moved away from her preferred 100m and 200m to ensure that we had virtually no gaps anywhere for the whole season, by making the 300m and 4x300m her own. A real team player!

U17B

Rhys Pladdy

Rhys has had a fantastic season both on the track and trails. Rhys came 7th in the brutal Red Kite Challenge in Devils Bridge in May. On the track Rhys won gold in the 3000m at the Regional Championships and went on to win silver at the Inter-regionals in Deeside in June. Rhys also won silver at the Welsh 3000m Championships and went on to secure silver at the Welsh Schools Championships in July, earning his first national vest.

Rhys has been chosen for this award due to his commitment and attitude at the YDL competitions this season. Rhys was always there – and despite having his own goals this season, was happy to fill in in any of the MD events – even happy to step up an age group. Rhys is an asset to the club and a great athlete to have on my team.

U17G

Rebecca Harries

Rebecca is a talented and committed middle distance athlete but also a great team player. Rebecca can be relied upon to represent the club at all of the leagues and this summer, stepped up two age groups to represent the club at the National Athletics League due to having the qualifying standard!

U20B

Salem Mbimbu kiambi

Salem is an absolute joy to have on the team. Salem is a talented athlete in many disciplines and  will step in to any event at short notice to get points for the team. Specialising in Shot put and Triple Jump – Salem is #3 in Wales for Shot and #2 in Wales for Triple Jump as a year 1 U20. Salem is a committed athlete having representes Wales several times at the Schools Combined Events.

Grace Richardson

Grace has been with the club from a very young age and is still as dedicated and committed to the sport as she was at 7 years old. Grace has captained the YDL team several times and can always be relied upon to step in to other events to help get valuable points for the team. Grace is talented a 200m and 400m sprinter but also discovered a talent for Long Jump at YDL! Grace is a real asset to the club, the definition of a team player!

Zac Munn

New to athletics – Zac has had a fantastic season on and off the track. Zac won silver at the Welsh XC Championships in Brecon in February and is showing great potential in the 800m and 1500m on the track.

U11G

Daisy Mosley

Daisy joined Cardiff in 2024 and has had a brilliant season. Daisy won second place in the 800m at the South Wales Welsh Junior League in Cardiff in April and won first place in the 1500m  at the South Wales Welsh Junior League in Aberdare in May.

U13B

Osian Phillips

Osian Phillips has had an outstanding season on and off the track. Osian secured the Gold medal at the Welsh XC Championships in Brecon in February and was selected for the TCS Mini London Marathon in April where he placed 23rd. Osian is also a fantastic track athlete winning gold in the 800m at the Welsh Indoor Championships in February and Silver in the Outdoor Welsh Championships in August. Osian has had a storming start to the XC season – winning the first Gwent league of the 24/25 season!

U13G

Elinor Roberts

Elinor is a talented all rounder who specialises in endurance. Elinor placed 16th at the Welsh XC Championships in Brecon in February and was selected for the TCS Mini London Marathon in April where she placed 78th. On the track, Elinor secured a Silver medal in the 1500m at the Welsh Championships in June. Elinor is ranked #7 in Wales for 1500m.

U15B

Finn Burns

Finn is a talented endurance athlete and has had a great season. Finn won Silver at the Welsh XC Championships in Brecon in February and came 4th in the Welsh Schools XC Championships later that month. Finn was selected for the TCS Mini London Marathon in April where he placed 62nd. Finn also won first place in the 800m at the Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan U15 Boys Championships.

Bryony Boyce

Bryony is an exceptionally talented and dedicated endurance athlete both on and off the track. Bryony secured a bronze medal at the Welsh XC Championships in Brecon in February and later that month went on to win Gold at the  Welsh Schools XC Championships. Bryony was selected for the TCS Mini London Marathon in April where she placed 13th! On the track, Bryony secured gold medals in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m at the Welsh Championships in June and won gold in the 1500m at the Welsh Schools Championships earning her first national vest. Bryony went on to win a Silver medal IN THE 3000m at the England Championships in Birmingham in July.  Bryony is ranked #1 in Wales for 800m, 1500m and 3000m and #3 in the UK for 1500m and 3000m!

Sam Boyce

Sam is a talented endurance runner both on and off the track and has had a busy but fantastic season. Sam won Silver at the Welsh Schools XC Championships and went on to secure 6th position at the Red Kite Challenge in Devils Bridge in April. On the track, Sam secured a bronze medal in the 3000m at the Welsh Schools Championships in July and is currently ranked #6 in Wales.

U17B

Tomos Horn

Tomos has had an exceptional season both on and off the track. Tomos came 8th at the Welsh XC Championships in Brecon in February but went on to win Bronze in the Welsh Schools XC Championships later that month. Tomos was selected for the TCS Mini London Marathon in April where he placed 104th. Tomos has also demonstrated his talents on the track, securing gold at the Welsh 3000m Championships in Newport in June, gold at the Welsh Schools Championships in the 1500m and winning Silver medals in the 800m and 1500m at the Welsh Championships in Swansea in August.

Rebecca Derrick

Rebecca is a talented endurance athlete specialising in road and xc events. Rebecca placed 17th at the Welsh National XC Championships in Brecon in February.

U20G

Maisie Patterson

Maisie is a talented middle distance and endurance athlete. Maisie came 22nd at the Welsh XC Championships in Brecon in February and placed 12th in the Welsh Schools XC Championships later that month. On the track, Maisie placed 9th in the 800m at the Welsh Senior Championships in Cardiff in June and placed 6th at the Welsh Championships in Swansea in August.

Anais Shepperd

Anais is an extremely determined and committed athlete. Having struggled with illness over the last 18 months, Anais hasn't given up, representing her country at SIAB and her club at all of the leagues. Anais is #3 in Wales for 200m and #4 for 300m and this year achieved a sub 60s in her first ever 400m which would see her ranked #8 in Wales in the U20s age category. Anais is getting stuck into winter training ready to take on the beastly 400m in 2025.

Alex Stamp

Alex is a dedicated and committed multi-events athlete who has dominated the 300m all season, winning every Welsh major championship (regional, schools, Welsh) and is ranked #2 in Wales and #32 in the UK. Alex has been focusing on improving his hurdles which have gone from strength to strength and he is now ranked #4 in Wales. Alex is also ranked #8 in the 200m, #14 in 800m and #7 in Long Jump. Due to Alex’s hard work and determination, he was recently selected for the Welsh Combined Events  team, earning his first national vest!

Boy

Jacob Barnes – U13

Jacob is a talented sprinter and long jumper. Jacob is the 2024 Triple Welsh Indoor and outdoor champion, the U13 Boys 200m Welsh record holder, #2 in UK for 60m and 200m and top 4 in the UK across all sprints (60m, 75m, 100m, 150m, 200m). Jacob has not lost a race within his own age group all season. Jacob was selected to represent his School at the NASWUT Plate Schools Championships one year early and secured first place in the 100m and second place in the Long Jump against the older boys.  Jacob is also #1 in Wales for Long Jump. Jacob is a highly determined and fiercely competitive athlete displaying raw talent.

 

Girl

Ava-Lexi Placide – U15

A former gymnast, Ava is now a dedicated and talented full time athlete specialising in sprints and hurdles. Ava is the reigning 60m Hurdles Welsh Indoor Champion and 75m Hurdles Welsh Outdoor Champion but went on to compete at the U17 Welsh Championships in August where she secured a bronze medal in the 80m Hurdles (one year early!). Ava is also the Welsh Schools Champion in the 75m Hurdles ranking her #1 in Wales in 75mH #4 in UK. Ava went on to compete at the England Championships in Birmingham in July where she progressed through to the final. Alongside the hurdles, Ava is also ranked #3 in the UK in the 60m and 100m. Ava is an exceptional athlete, one to watch for the future.

Lewis Stephens

Lewis is a talented sprinter who is improving year on year. Lewis ran a blistering 10.6s in the 100m representing the club in Yate in May which qualified him for GB selection and accelerated him straight to the top of the Welsh rankings and to #6 in the UK as a year 1 U20. Having already been selected for the Junior Commonwealth Games in Trinidad in 2023, this year Lewis earned his first GB vest and represented GB at the prestigious Mannheim International in July. This is one of the highest level junior competitions outside of the World or European U20 Championships. A fantastic achievement!

Lewis has his eyes set on the U20 European Championships in Finland next August.

Jess Mantle

Jess is a talented sprinter and committed athlete. Jess is the reigning U20 Welsh Champion in 100m and Welsh Schools Champion in 100m. Jess was selected to represent Wales twice at the U20s International in Eton and Manchester and was also selected for the prestigious annual Loughborough International event in May.

Jess ran a blistering 11.86w in Lee Valley in July securing her position as #1 U20 in Wales (as a year 1 U20!) and #24 in the UK. Jess can always also be relied upon to represent the club at all league fixtures. A popular athlete within the club. Jess is now working hard to qualify for the U20 European Championships in Finland next August.

 

 

 

Performance Award - Jumps

 

 

U15B

Kaleem Islam

Kaleem is a very talented athlete who has been nominated for his exceptional Long Jump performances at both the Welsh Schools Championships and at the England Championships in July. At the Welsh Schools, Kaleem stunned the crowds in Cardiff with a massive jump of 6.20m securing the Championship Best Performance and earning him his first national vest (one year early).

Kaleem went on to win gold at the England championships later in July with a huge leap of 6.27m. Kaleem is ranked #1 in Wales and #4 in the UK. Kaleem is also a talented sprinter, narrowly missing out on a Bronze medal at the England Championships in July.

 

 

U17G

Sophia Goulding

Triple Jump - Sophia is relatively new to athletics having started triple jumping in June 2023 after being spotted in the schools competitions a month earlier. At that point Sophia was jumping just over 8 meters. Over the 6 months that followed Sophia worked hard, took on advice and earlier this year she entered the Welsh indoor championships where in a tightly contested triple jump competition she walked away with a PB of 10.24m and her first ever gold medal. A performance that far exceeded our early expectations and needed her to jump 2 personal bests in the series.

Eurion John

Eurion is a very talented thrower and this year secured his position as  Welsh Champion and Welsh Schools Champion in Discus. Eurion is #1 in Wales and #13 in the UK. Eurion was selected to represent Wales at the U20 International in Eton in August.

U13G

Bethany Davies

Bethany is a committed and talented multi eventer who specialises in throws. Bethany won Silver at Welsh Championships in Discus with a throw of 15.76m and is ranked #9 in Wales. Bethany is a real team player and can be relied upon to step up to any event whilst representing the club at leagues!

U13B

Jacob Barnes

Jacob has had an outstanding season  - he is the 2024 Triple Welsh Indoor and Outdoor Champion. Jacob broke the U13 Boys Welsh record in the 200m at the Welsh Championships in August with a blistering run of 24.71s a staggering 2 seconds faster than second place. Jacob is undefeated within his own age group this year – racing boys from across the UK and has finished his season ranked #1 in the UK for 200i #2 in the UK for 60m and 200m (outdoors) and top 4 in the UK across all sprints (60m, 75m, 100m, 150m, 200m). Not only a sprinter - Jacob is #1 in Wales for Long Jump, an event he rarely has the opportunity to practice but really enjoys. A challenging year ahead being year 1 U15 but Jacob is looking forward to getting stronger, faster and maybe a bit taller! Jacob is an extremely popular athlete within his group and in the club as a whole. A super star in the making.

U20G

Anna-Rose Merchant

Anna-Rose is a very talented middle distance runner specialising in the 800m. Despite struggling with injury at the start of the season, Anna Rose demonstrated commitment, determination combined with a natural talent and went on to win Gold at the Welsh Championships in August not only in the 800m but also in the 400m! Running an impressive 56.28s shaving 3s off her previous PB from June! Anna Rose is ranked #1 in Wales for 800 and 400m and #18 in the UK for 800m and #19 for 400m as a first year U20. Anna-Rose was selected to represent Wales at the U20 International in Eton in August where she secured a Bronze medal in the 800m. Anna-Rose has a bright future ahead of her.
