As the summer season progresses (even if we have seen very little of the sun in the past few weeks), we have some great news to share with our athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents and wider club members.

This season, the track and field calendar is unusually crowded with major championships (the World Athletics Championships, the European Championships and the Commonwealth Games). It is with great pride that we can confirm that the following Cardiff Athletics athletes have been selected to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games – Charlotte Arter, Jeremiah Azu, Bethan Davies, Clara Evans, Lauren Evans, Jake Hayward, Jenny Nesbitt and Kevin Seaward (representing Northern Ireland). There is no greater honour than to represent your home country at a major championships – CONGRATULATIONS TO EACH OF OUR CARDIFF ATHLETICS TEAM MATES!

Congratulations also to James Hunt and Matthew Edwards, who respectively finished first and second in the 10km and to Dan Nash who won the half-marathon representing the Club and City of Cardiff, competing at an event in our twin city of Stuttgart, Germany last month. An exceptional achievement by all, WELL DONE!

On a personal note, I have to say it has been an immense pleasure and honour to witness so many fantastic achievements by Cardiff athletes across all ages over the last few weeks. As Chair of the Club, I have attended multiple events, from age-group Youth Development Leagues to senior National Athletics League events, as well as the UK Athletics Championships in Manchester, last weekend. It is a genuine honour to see the blue, white and red vest of Cardiff Athletics compete at the highest levels and for our athletes (and officials) to represent the club with such commitment across all levels of competition. THANK YOU.

To everybody who starts a race, finishes a race, jumps, throws, vaults, sets a PB, makes a final, encourages a team mate – you make the club that is Cardiff Athletics a proud club for all – THANK YOU!

Here’s to more success (and enjoyment of our sport) in the coming months.

Yours in Sport
